SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) Hospitalization in Light of Kolcaba’s Theory of Comfort in Nursing: A Literature Review

Abstract: The pandemic has imparted complex threats to patients hospitalized with SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) and nursing scholars have identified impaired comfort as a critical patient response secondary to this viral illness. Patient comfort is considered an essential element of quality care that positively influences health, healing, and recovery. ‘Comfort’ in nursing is conceptualized by Dr. Kolcaba’s middle-range Comfort Theory of physical, psycho- spiritual, sociocultural, and environmental comfort needs that guide nursing care.

Adherence to National Asthma Guidelines in a Pediatric Outpatient Clinic: Why Periodic Education Improves Adherence

Abstract: A pre- post-chart audits of 50 asthmatics assessed provider documentation for asthma classification and treatment according to national guidelines. Once baseline electronic medical records (EMR) audit was conducted the healthcare providers and clinic staff received training on the use of asthma diagnosis and treatment national guidelines. A post-training EMR chart audit (3-months after the training) was conducted for a pre-post-training comparison.

Abstract: A high nurse-patient ratio exists in acute care settings in which a team-based care delivery is utilized to optimize patient care flow efficiency. Within this structure, nurse-patient relationships exist in an individualistic context.
